take time to realize

last year with my youth group we put together a poverty awareness night. we talked to local food banks and opportunity centers to find out the needs and we went out and bought some of the things they needed and then also told our church about the night we would be having in a few weeks. we planned to meet at a very public railroad station where lots of people drive past so that we would be very noticeable. We held signs and candles to make our community aware of poverty and that you dont always realize that people in your own community, school, or even your office could be living with poverty, you just dont always know it. lots of people sleep in their cars, and go to local shelters for showers and food before school or work.

that night we had some women come and talk to us about the issue and 2 of the women who spoke used to be living with poverty at one point but because of places like the Indian Valley Opportunity Center and the Indian Valley Housing Co they got back on their feet and now work in those places trying to help other people out of poverty.

in that one night alone we gathered bags and bags full of clothing and food not to mention about $2,000 in monetary donations. by the end of the night we had a candlelight vigil and prayed for all of those people who are not as fortunate as us.

as i sat there in a cardboard box around a small fire that we had going i realized that God has a plan for everyone, even those living in poverty. God sends us tasks that he knows we can handle and he never gives us more than we can bear. everything we do helps us grow into the person he wants us to be, we learn from our mistakes whether they are big or small but in the end we are turning into what God has planned for us to be.

you may not see what God wants you to do right now, but if you would take the time to sit back, and listen to what he has to say to you…you may realize what he has in-store for your life. try not to dictate your own life because the outcome will never be good. just sit back and enjoy life, let God plan the future for you, with some help from you - making the right decisions. take time to enjoy a car ride, or to take a walk, maybe even read a good book. dont plan for what is to come because half of living life is enjoying life. dont worry about where you are gonna be in 5, 10 or even 15 years from now…because God will tell you where he wants you to be if you would just stop and listen to him and you will know exactly where you are supposed to be.

the most important lesson you can learn in life is to listen, and not just listening with your ears but with your heart as well.
