How can parents know if their child is color blind and at what age?
Color blindness can first be detected at the age when a child is able to name shapes or letters. The test consists of shapes or letters in one color embeded within another, which are not usually discernible to color blind persons. Coolor vision testing is not frequently done in children and is not recommended in children as a part of standar testing. It is often only done in childre who seem slow in learning the names of the colors. Defective colro vision is rare in girls but not uncommon in boys. True color blindness may be a sign of retinal be evaluated by a pediatric ophthalmologist.
